1 Corinthians 7:1-5

Open to 1 Cor. 7. Have you ever heard someone described as 'touchy'? 'Better watch out, he's a bit touchy today.'' It means ultra-sensitive, right? One wrong move, and bad things can happen. Today, we're looking at a subject that's not only very important, but also super sensitive. Especially in church. We're going to see the power and purpose of sex within a marriage. And this isn't from the pages of Cosmopolitan. This is from the heart of the Creator of the Universe. Big difference, right? Did you know it's possible to have a great sex life and be a great Christian at the same time? Apparently not. Well, it is!

I've told you often that God is not ashamed of sex. He's not embarrassed by it. God is not anti-sex. Nor is He ambivalent about His feelings toward human sexuality. Our Creator is very pro-sex. In fact, He doesn't just permit it; He demands it. God is so adamantly pro-sex one of His first commands to humans was 'Be fruitful and multiply.' In other words, God said, 'Go have sex. That's an order.' Some of you are saying, 'Now that's a command I want to obey.' Ha.

But our sin and selfishness has caused us to abuse and misuse this beautiful gift mercilessly. And the consequences have been quite severe. While the Bible has much to say to about sex, over the centuries the church has said little about it. Our shyness on the subject has led to silence. And our silence has let to more sin. So as touchy as this subject can be, I believe it's important for all of us to get God's perspective on it.

Last week I told you the Corinthians were struggling with two prevailing attitudes or philosophies toward sex. The first, we discussed last week from 6:12-20, was the:

PAGANS: It's just an APPETITE to be fed.

6:13,''Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but f ...
