1. PERSONAL GIFT TO US.
V6a: ''For to US a child is born, to US a son is given...''. Two phrases; two important facts.
''child born'' refers to the HUMANITY of Jesus.
''Son given'' refers to the DEITY of Jesus.
The first phrase tells us He is the Son of Man; the second phrase tells us He is the Son of God.
As a child of Mary, He was born on earth to live with us. As the Son of God, He was given from heaven to die for us. The One who is eternal and outside of time would allow Himself to be born into time. Bethlehem was where Jesus was born, but that's not where He began. Why? Because He had not beginning. God's Christmas gift was a Person of deity wrapped in the package of humanity.
This is what theologians call the 'Incarnation'. 'Incarnation' is a Latin word that literally means 'in flesh'. 'In'=in and 'carne'=flesh. Incarnation means God in flesh. God became man. ...
