Grab your Bible and turn to 1 Thess. 4. Several years ago, a very famous woman by the name of Abigail Van Buren died. Most of us knew her as Dear Abby. She was America's newspaper counselor for decades.
Not all her advice was good, but every occasionally, she hit the nail on the head.
An example of that was the letter written by this man who wrote:
Dear Abby, ''I'm in love and having an affair with two different women. I can't marry them both. Please tell me what to do. Don't give me any of that morality stuff.''
Abby's answer was classic. ''Dear sir, the only difference between humans and animals is morality. Please write to a veterinarian.''
We live in a sexually explicit, sexually explosive, and sexually messed up world. Sometimes I feel like the little boy who was asked to finish the sentence, ''Cleanliness is next to....'', and he finished it by saying, ''Cleanliness is next to impossible.'' You ever feel like that? It's like we're living in a country that has an unseen sewer line that is gushing filth into every state of our country, and the stench can be smelled in practically every community in America. Our country is glistening with technology, glittering with gold, and yet is up to its neck in garbage.
I don't think I have to convince very many of you that sexual sin is rampant in our society today. But just in case you're not convinced let me give you just a few statistics.
- In a recent survey, 29 percent of people said they've had sex on a first date.
- Men have had an average of 20 sexual partners in a lifetime while women average 6.
- 65 percent of teenagers have had sex by the time they finish high school.
- 57% of men and 54% of women have a sexual affair outside of their marriage.
- Almost four in ten babies in the United States are born out of wedlock.
- Adult bookstores outnumber MacDonald's in the US by a margin ...
