I remember several years ago, the hometown of actress Lucille Ball had a massive 400-pound statue made in her honor and they placed it in a prominent spot within the city park. If you're a bit on the younger side and don't recognize the name Lucille Ball, here's her picture. (show pic) She was a beautiful woman and phenomenal comedic actress. You can still watch reruns of 'I Love Lucy'.

But a problem arose. When people of her hometown saw the bronze statue there was a massive outcry. They hated it. They wanted it removed immediately. They wrote letters city officials, started petitions, and even had a dedicated Facebook page to get rid of it. Why were people so infuriated?

Well, take a look at it. (show pic) Why enraged? Because it didn't look like her. This statue is infamously called 'Scary Lucy'. Here's the point: If you're going to create something in the likeness of someone, it better look a lot like them, right?

Well, guess who the church of Jesus Christ is supposed to look like? Did you know the Greek word for Christian literally means 'little Christ'? The church corporately and each Christian individually is to reflect the nature, character, and actions of Jesus. But it's not uncommon to hear complaints about the church that sound a lot like Lucy statue, is it? ''Man, the church doesn't seem to look much like Jesus.'' Let me ask you Christian: Do you resemble Jesus? You're thinking 'Maybe, scary Jesus?' ??

I think part of the reason many of us don't look as much like Jesus as we should is because we don't have a good mental picture or a good understanding of God. Our view is very limited; it's very narrow. That's what I hope to help us with today. Today, we're taking an in depth look at who God is and what God is by studying the doctrine of the Trinity.
