Turn to 1 Cor. 1. This is the fourth message from this chapter and we are at the halfway point. Just a little slower than I'd originally planned. At this pace we should be done with the book of 1 Corinthians by Christmas of 2018. We'll see. The title of the message today is 'Baptism and Preaching: What's the Point?' Ever wondered that?

I spend over 20 hours every week studying and preparing for this moment. And there are so many things I could talk about, need talk about, and want to talk about. But sometimes God makes it really clear what I HAVE to talk about. And that's today. The last couple weeks there's been so much spiritual light beaming off two words in my bible that it's nearly blinded me. They are: Baptism and Preaching. Baptism and Preaching. Baptism and Preaching. They've been like beacons of light in my bible. So, I thought, 'Lord, are you trying to tell me something?' Ha. I'm a sharp one, aren't I?

Those two words are two major spiritual exercises that Christian churches all over the world practice. Matter of fact, if Christian churches aren't doing those two things they aren't really Christian churches at all because these are the very things God has commanded His churches to be doing.

Here at Harvester we do these two things nearly every week. So, the question isn't are we doing them? The real question is do we understand them? Mindless submission doesn't lead to the greatest satisfaction. Do we all understand these two practices? Do we all understand their power? Do we all understand their purpose? I'm not sure. I'm hopeful today we'll gain a better perspective and maybe greater passion for both through our study. Look at Paul's perspective if these two practices in verses 14-18 (READ).
