Have you ever met someone who just needs to grow up? I mean, it seems like they never left the childish stage of year gone by. Do you know people who still act like a child: whine when they don't get their way, want everyone to focus on them, pout when they get upset? I think we all know people like that. Some of us may be like that. Now, I'm a kid at heart. But, that means that I'm fun-loving and energetic. It means that I like to play ball and swing on the swings and play on the monkey bars at the playground. I think that stuff is fun. I'm a kid at heart, but hopefully I don't act childish.
Sadly, many adults have never really grown up. They still have the self-absorbed, self-centered attitude that comes naturally to kids. Sometimes the best advice that I can give as a pastor is this: grow up! I know that sounds harsh. But sometimes we just need to be honest about the situation. Sometimes we just need to put childish things away and grow up and act like adults.
That's why this last message on the life of Peter is so important. Peter's message to us in 2 Peter 1:2-9 is a message about maturity.
