SERMON #5 A NEW ACCEPTANCE
COLOSSIANS 1:21-23
Would you agree with me there are a lot of empty, unfulfilled,
unsatisfied, discontented, unhappy people in our world today?!
Isn't it
amazing that though we are the wealthiest, most prosperous
society that
has ever lived on the planet--we are no more fulfilled, happy,
or
content than any generation that has every preceded us?
You would think that somehow we would have learned by now
that genuine fulfillment and contentment, is not achieved by
means of
material prosperity, or physical luxuries or creature-comforts.
Ex: How many of you believe that:
1.Elvis Presley died a happy, fulfilled, content man
2.John Belushi died a happy, content man
3.Howard Hughes died a fulfilled, satisfied man
4.John Lennon died a happy, content man
5.Janice Joplin died a happy, fulfilled woman at 27 years of age
Do you know why all these people died tragically in seclusion,
and with drug addictions and psychotic-neurosis?
It is because they looked to the wrong things to provide real
happiness and fulfillment. They committed their entire lives
to:
*material riches
*fame
*immoral indulgences
And after they committed themselves to this end--they discovered
it did not provide what it had promised, and they had no where
else to
turn.
