LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST
A STUDY IN COLOSSIANS
SERMON #11 OUR NEW AFFECTIONS IN CHRIST
COLOSSIANS 3:1-4
If you are interested in "Living Life To Its Fullest" and really
"Getting
The Most Out Of Life," I know of no better book of the Bible to
point you
to than the book of Colossians. The book of Colossians declares
this great
truth ... the only way to live life to its fullest is to be in
right relationship
with Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ is not just the "giver of
life." He is life.
(Col. 3:3) And when we are in Christ and Christ is in us, "He is
our life."
I believe the theme for the entire book of Colossians is found
in Chapter
2:9-10.
Col 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in
bodily form,
Col 2:10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the
head over
every power and authority.
It has only been in my recent study of the book of Colossians
that I
made a rich and wonderful discovery concerning what it means to
be a
Christian. And that is, being a Christian not only means that
Christ is in me
... it also means that I am in Christ. And, in fact, the Bible
makes far more
frequent reference to our being in Christ than it does Christ's
being in us!
In our preaching and teaching we regularly emphasize "Christ
being in
us," but seldom mention "our being in Christ." And because of
this
oversight, many believers have never discovered and experienced
the
fullness of life that is theirs by virtue of their position in
Christ Jesus.
