Over the World (1 of 3)
Series: Triumph

1 John 5:1-5

We are starting a brand new series today called 'Triumph'. One of the things the bible repeatedly and undeniably proclaims that the Christian life is to be a victorious life. Many of you love that old hymn 'Victory in Jesus'. And that's what the bible teaches. There is victory in Jesus. Maybe one of my all time favorite verses in the entire bible is Romans 8:37, the Apostle Paul says, ''Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.' Don't you love it?

Do you see those words ''more than conquerors''? It is actually one word in the original Greek hupernike. 'Huper' is where we get our word hyper, or over the top, or above and beyond, or supreme, or super. Nike means to win, or be victorious, or to conquer, or to overcome something, or to be triumphant. So what Paul says that when we are in Christ and Christ lives in us and through us, we are super conquerors, or over and beyond triumphant, or supremely victorious. Isn't that cool? Do you know what the difference is between a conqueror and a super-conqueror? A conquer is someone who fights a battle and wins it. A super-conquer is someone who knows the battle is won before it is even fought. That's supposed to be the Christian life. Yes, we're going to face battles, yes we're going to have an enemy, yes it's going to be a struggle, but folks because of the cross of Jesus Christ and His empty tomb we are more than conquerors. We will overcome because He overcame. We are victorious, because of His victory.

We're like the man that was bragging to a ...
