Grab a bible and turn to Genesis 22. You say, ''Bob, how in the world are you going to talk about the cross from Genesis 22?'' I'm glad you asked. I'll show you in just a moment. You know, it's amazing to me that parents, even though their weak, sinful, broken people, they can love their children so deeply and so selflessly children. I can vividly remember the birth of each of my children, and it's remarkable how God has taught me about His love for me through the love I have for my children. (I brought a few pictures for you to enjoy. They used to be so cute. I don't know what happened to them.)

But you know what? From the moment they arrived in that hospital room to right now; I would give my life for them no questions asked. I'm sure you're the same way. Because something happens to you when that baby is born. The moment you lay eyes on them there is this utterly unashamed, fiercely loyal, and powerfully protective love that sweeps over you for them. There's nothing you wouldn't do on their behalf, right?

And even though that newborn screams bloody murder and keeps us awake at night and demands so much sacrifice of time, energy, effort, and resources, we innately love them anyway. Even the worst of men in the world usually have a natural, inherent adoration for their children.

I remember reading that when Saddam Hussein was in power, he abused his countrymen, but was compassionate to his sons. Even the worst of people seem to have a heart for their own kids. Now, as our children grow older, we pour a ton of ourselves into our children, don't we? We teach them to feed themselves, tie their shoes, ride a bike, catch a ball, study for school. We brainwash them into rooting for our favorite teams. And all the while, there is this ever-increasing bonding between a parent and child.
