Psalm 122:1-9
Intro/Attention
We are about halfway through our church-wide emphasis during the summer entitled, Impact: 40 days of eternal significance. We are learning what it means to make an impact for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God.
Today, from Psalm 122, I am preaching on this subject, Impacting Our Community. Think about this question: Are the city of Warner Robins and the surrounding area different because Second Baptist Church is here? Is Houston County different because our church exists? I Middle Georgia better off because there's a church here off Moody Road?
Because we don't exist for ourselves. We exist to impact others for the sake of the gospel. We exist as a launching pad, a sending point, to make a difference in our neighbors and the nations.
Psalm 122 is attributed to David. And in this psalm we see David's heart for the city of Jerusalem. And I believe we can learn a few principles concerning how we should impact our community as followers of Christ. READ TEXT - PRAY
The first time I ever set foot in Washington D.C. was January 2017. I know it's hard to believe, I almost didn't believe it myself, but I had never been to D.C. before this year. Now, I've been three times this year but never before this year. As Stephanie and I walked the streets of Washington, we were in awe. All of these monuments that I had seen in TV shows, in photos, and on movies were now right there before my eyes. The size and architecture of the buildings simply overwhelmed me. Walking in to the Library of Congress and seeing the ornate design, walking down the streets and imagining the history, enjoying the tours at the Museum of American History. I was overwhelmed and overjoyed at the same time. I was filled with awe and filled with pride. I was reminded that it's an incredible city. Such history. Such impact. Such importance.
