Turn to Eph. 6. I believe with all my heart that Satan gives his best effort and fullest attention to destroying the family because he knows that if he gets the family, he gets the future. Without the family we have no future. The future of our country is not predicated on what goes on in Washington. Because what's most important is not what's happening at the White House, it's what's happening at your house. God's greatest concern is not what the President is doing TO the family, but what are parents doing FOR their family. The family is the first institution God put on earth, and is still the most important institution on earth because the health of all the other institutions is predicated on it. As goes the family...so goes our community, our country, our church.

So today we look to the Lord for some first aid for the family by turning our attention to what the Bible has to say to us about parenting. The truth is you will take your primary parenting cues from Scripture or from culture. One looks up; the other looks around. Well, today we're going to look up to the Lord by looking into His Word. Ephesians 6:1-4 (READ).

Now, there is an assumption that the Apostle Paul makes when he starts writing about parenting here in chapter 6. You know what it is? He's assuming we've read the first five chapters. Paul does not begin with parenting advice. No, before he tells us what we need to do in our home, he tells us what we have to believe in our heart. The book of Ephesians is six chapters and can be divided into two parts.

- The first three chapters give us our position in Christ, who we are;

- The last three chapters tell us about our practice in Christ, what we should do.

- The first three chapters tell us what we believe; the last three chapters tell us how we ought to behave.
