What is the pinnacle of parenthood? Having a baby? Getting them to sleep through the night? Successful potty-training? Making the honor roll? High School graduation? Getting them off your payroll, finally? Seeing their wedding? How about grandchildren? What's the pinnacle of parenthood?

As great as those things are, the bible says those things aren't the peak. 3 John 4 says, ''I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.'' Of course, John is talking about his spiritual children here, but no doubt it applies to our physical children as well, doesn't it? There's nothing better than knowing your child walks in the truth. Now, truth isn't an arbitrary list of do's and don'ts based on the current morals of society. No, Truth is a Person. Eternal Truth has been revealed to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, ''I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life.''

So John is saying there is not a greater feeling, there's not a more reassuring thought for a Christian parent than when they know that their child is trusting Christ for the forgiveness of sin, and are daily walking and talking with Him, and serving Him personally and passionately with all their heart. John says that's the pinnacle parenting. Nothing compares to the great joy of knowing that our children are walking in the truth.

Of course, the flip side of that is true as well. There is no greater sorrow than seeing your children walk in a lie. Nothing breaks a Christian parents heart more than when their child decides they are going to walk in the dark rather than in the light. They are going to live for the world, rather than the One who made the world. They are going live their way, not God's way. So they flat out walk away from Christ, and His church, and His Word, His will, and His ways. And often it's the exact opposite of how mom and dad raised them. And ...
