I think everyone loves a good comeback story. A comeback story is where a person, or a team, or a business, or an organization faces impossible adversity and overwhelming odds, but somehow overcomes it all and comes out on top. History is full of them.

One of my favorites is the story of Bernie Marcus. Bernie was the son of a poor Russian cabinetmaker in Newark, New Jersey. In 1978, he was fired from a do-it-yourself retail store called HANDY DAN. So what did Bernie do? He teamed up with a guy named Arthur Blank, and they started their own business. They opened their first store in Atlanta, Georgia, and THE HOME DEPOT. Last year alone, The Home Depot reported a gross net profit of 32 billion dollars. Pretty decent financial comeback!

Many of us when we hear the word 'comeback' we think of what? Sports! My favorite comeback ever is pretty recent. The Chicago Cubs were down 3 games to 1 to the Cleveland Indians. They hadn't won a World Series in 108 years. It was bleak. It looked like the curse of the billy goat was going to continue. But with their backs against the wall, the Cubbie's mounted a glorious, epic comeback that will never be forgotten by anyone ever.

My son and I watched Game 7 together in his dorm room. Unbeknownst to us, Adam's roommate was filming us on his phone as we watched the last out being made that capped the comeback and made the Cubs world champs. This is what it looked like. (Video) Brings tears of joy to my eyes every time! Maybe we should watch that again. No, I'm kidding! Oh what a comeback!

Of course, most comeback stories are more personal than public. Some of you have them. You beat cancer even though you were given little hope. Or, after being separated and on the brink of divorce, you and your spouse now thriving and your marriage is stronger than ever. Or, years ago, you were told by doctors you wouldn't be able to have children of your own, but now you have more kids ...
