The Prophecy of Jesus' Coming was Supernatural (1 of 5)
Series: Christmas
Richard Bradley
Isaiah 9:2;6-7
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. 6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. NKJV
I'm afraid that in today's modern, 21st. century world the true story of Christmas has gotten sort of lost in the shuffle. There's a lot of noise and chaos associated with Christmas today and if we're not careful the true story of Christmas can remain hidden under a lot of stuff that has little or nothing to do with the biblical message of Jesus' birth. Not sure when or how things got so turned upside down but even a cursory glance will tell us that something is a little off with Christmas.
One doesn't have to be a Bible scholar to know that the biblical message of Christmas is outside of the natural realm. In fact, this extraordinary message is supernatural in both its origin and its presentation. The word supernatural refers to that which is ''above or beyond what is natural and is unexplainable by natural law.'' Apart from the supernatural, biblical account of Jesus' birth it is impossible to explain who Jesus is or describe what He came to do.
As we discuss the supernatural message of Jesus' birth we must start at the beginning. This story doesn't have its beginning in a lambing cave in Bethlehem. It logically begins on the pages of the Old Testament where the prophets prophesied of the Savior's coming.
