One of my all time favorite stories is about a husband who asked his wife if she'd ever been in love before she met him. She thought for a moment and said ''No... I once respected a man for his great intelligence.

I admired another for his remarkable business skill. I was captivated by yet another because of his good looks and charm. But with you honey, well, how else could you explain it except for love.''

In a similar way, there is no way to explain why God would send His precious Son to be born into a sin soaked world to die a hideous, substitutionary death on a cross for undeserving sinners like us apart from the love of God. Christmas puts into the spotlight the unbelievable, unquenchable, unconditional, unmatchable love of God. And there may be no verse in the entire bible that shines more light on God's love than the one all of us have heard and most of us have memorized. Read this with me. John 3:16: ''For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.''

Christmas joyfully celebrates the moment in time that God the Father sent His Son from heaven to be born on earth so that when you and I leave earth we can be forever in heaven. Jesus said it Himself in John 6:38, ''For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.'' Jesus said His Father sent Him from heaven to earth on an unprecedented, unrepeatable mission. And what was that mission? Jesus reveals it in John 3:17: ''For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.'' Jesus didn't come to condemn the world to hell. Why? Because that had already been done in the Garden of Eden. Because of sin, the world had been pronounced condemned. But God while God condemned the world due to sin, God had a plan to save the world because of His love. In Chri ...
