Our Missions Mandate
Dr. Ernest L. Easley
Acts 1.8
December 8, 2002
As you know by now... this is Missions Warm-Up Day
here at Roswell Street Baptist Church. We are
preparing to give a sacrificial gift next Sunday to
World Missions.
And as we prepare... we have before us the last words
and the last will of the Lord Jesus Christ prior to
His ascension. And those words and will are found in
Acts chapter 1.
So take your copy of the Word of God and join me in
Acts chapter 1. We will resume our study of the book
of Revelation next Sunday... but this morning...
Missions Warm-Up Day... we hear the last words Jesus
spoke to His disciples right before He ascended back
into Heaven.
It is in His last words we find His last will and His
last words and will focus on Our Missions Mandate! In
fact... Acts 1.8 is another form of the Great
Commission found in Matthew 28.19-20 where Jesus said,
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always, even to the end of the age."
Now The Great Commission is great because of the
Authority behind it! Matthew 28.18, "All authority
has been given to Me in heaven and on earth."
It is also great because of the Area that it covers!
All of the world and to every creature.
It is great also because of the Activity it involves:
to make disciples and to teach them.
But it's also great because of the Assurance behind
it: "I am with you always."
Well... it is that mandate that I want to talk to you
about this morning one week before our ingathering day
for our World Mission Offering.
Our Missions Mandate
Acts 1.8
Verse 8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses
to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and
to the end ...
