Mark 4:1-20
CIT - Jesus explains that there are 4 types of listeners who hear the Gospel.
Proposition - People today need to hear and receive the teachings of God's Word.
Objective - I want people to hear the Gospel and receive Jesus as Lord. I want Christians to hear and obey God's Word.
INTRODUCTION: Introduce Parables. Chap. 4 is a series of Parables that deal with the Word of God, the Gospel of the Kingdom. This first parable has to do with hearing the Word.
PRIMARY TERMS IN THIS PARABLE-
THE SOWER- Jesus may have seen in the distance a farmer or farmers spreading the seed on the field. They used either a broadcast method, carried a sack over their shoulder with a small hole in it, or they tied the same sack to an animal. Jesus is the good sower. However, anyone who preaches or teaches the Gospel. Your preacher, a evangelist, a Sunday School teacher, You as a Witness
!
THE SEED-The seed is the word of God. The Gospel of the Kingdom. James 1:21; 1 Peter 1:23
This seed is powerful. ILLUS: Pick an apple. Did you realize there is an orchid in that apple? The word of God is intensely powerful in the life of the believer. Heb. 4:12
ILLUS: Plant a seed, then pour a concrete sidewalk over the seed. Who will win the battle? You guessed it. The seed!
THE SOIL-This is the focus of the parable. Palestinian farms were small, soil content was the same most everywhere. The sower and the seed are the same in all 4 instances. The difference is in the condition of the soil. Not the makeup of the soil, one was not more naturally fertile than the others. This soil illustrates the human heart. Vs.19 The same is true tonight in our service. No one of us is more fertile to the word of God than any other.
There are 4 types of soil. Each one of these soils reflects a condition that affects the human heart.
I want to ask you to do a bit of self-diagnosis this morning. ...
