Proposition- Jesus responds to those who cry out to him.

INTRODUCTION:

ILLUS: A lot of have little sympathy for people begging. We tend to think of them only as jobless alcoholics who don't want to work. That's not always true. A man who pretends to be mentally and physically handicapped while he goes around the streets begging claims he makes up to $100,000 a year from his panhandling.Gary Thompson, from Texas, gets around Lexington, Kentucky, in a wheelchair which he says he needs because he has difficulty walking. He also maneuvers his hands in a way that would lead the untrained eye to believe he had difficulty using them.There are websites on how to beg for money. One even claims that you can rich doing it. In our passage we are going to meet a woman who comes to Jesus begging and pleading for his help.

Historical Context: Jesus retreats for a time to Tyre. An ancient city. From Tyre Baal worship had been introduced to Israel. It was in this city that King Ahab married his wicked wife Jezebel. Tyre was a Gentile city. It was wicked and idolatrous. Josephus, the Jewish historian, states that the people of Tyre were the bitterest enemies of Israel.This also seems to be the only time that Jesus went beyond the borders of ancient Israel. He stays at a house in the area, intending to lay low for a while and rest with His disciples. But word quickly gets out. That's the way it is isn't it? The presence of Jesus can never be hidden. Not in a Church. Not in a home. Not in your own life! People will see him and notice him. One woman emerges from the crowd. No doubt others came also, but all the attention of Scripture focuses on her. She has a heart breaking story and an insurmountable problem. She comes to Jesus, begging. Begging for Grace.
