CIT - The people around Jesus were slow to understand what He was teaching them.
Proposition - Sometimes spiritual understanding comes slowly.
INTRODUCTION:
Mark 8:1-26 parallels mark 6:30-7:37. There are very similar events recorded in almost the same order and arrangement. There is a feeding of a great multitude, a boat trip, a confrontation with the Pharisees, a conversation about bread, and a healing.
I have preaching through Mark before and missed this. These events happened this way in historically, but Mark recorded them this way purposefully. In spite of everything they had seen and heard, the disciples just didn't get it the first time. Spiritual growth and understanding just came slowly to these men.
We don't always get it about . . . What Jesus is doing - vs. 1-10This takes place in the region of the Decapolis, in Galilee. This was Gentile territory. They had been with him 3 days. We see Jesus' compassion - Why? They had been with him 3 days and had nothing to eat. He did not want to send them away hungry. Some might pass out or grow weak on the way home. Vs. 4 - How can one fee these people? They were out in the wilderness. There was not food anywhere close. From our point of view we want to look at the disciples and ask ''really?'' ...
