PROPOSITION: Faith in the power of Jesus is the key to breaking the chains of Satan's bondage.
INTRODUC TION:
Background: ''For this lesson, the scene shifts dramatically from the mountain of glory to the valley of despair. From the dazzling majesty of the unveiled Christ in the presence of Moses, Elijah, and God the Father, in a glorious preview of the second coming, Jesus and the three disciples descended into the reality of the sin-cursed world at its worst''. McArthur, Matthew 17, vol. 2, p. 74
The scene is chaotic. The people rush up to Jesus, Salute Him, with a kiss or a hug. A demon that the disciples had not been able to cast out Burden: The necessity of Faith. Faith is the key that unlocks the power of God in our lives. Faith, belief in the ability of God, will break down the walls of bondage in our lives and set us free from Satan's chains. Some of you here this morning are bound by Satan's chains.You are bound by sin. You have never accepted Christ as your Savior. You are overcome by attitudes of unforgiveness, anger, or rebellion.Faith in Jesus is the key to finding release from the power of bondage.
A DEMONIZED BOY VS. 14-18 We find here a picture of the desperate world that we live in, and the responsibility we have living in that world.All around us people are in the grip of Satan's control. They are blinded by him, bound by him! We have the responsibility to take the good-news of Jesus Christ to those who are lost and dying and bond by the devil's chains!
THE BOY'S CONDITION-VS. 17-18 Many scholars believe that this boy had epilepsy. That may have been, but if so this was not epilepsy as we know it.
