CIT: Jesus reveals the heart of a true worshipper.
PROPOSITION: Every Christian and every Church must experience real Worship.

INTRODUCTION:

Background: Passover time. Thousands have flocked to Jerusalem to celebrate. Jesus and the Scribes have been going head to head for most of the day. They have been questioning Him, trying to trip him up, trying to make Him incriminate himself. Jesus however, turns the tables. He begins to question them. He goes in the offensive. I believe that these three paragraphs are tied together by a common thread. Worship. This was a time of Worship. They were in a place of Worship. The Scribes were the Worship leaders of the day. Jesus takes this opportunity to cut through the false façade of their ritualistic worship and give us a glimpse of what true worship really is.

Burden: I want to challenge you from the Word this morning to examine your worship. Do you know what Worship really is? When was the last time you experienced it. I hope to challenge you to become a Worshipper of the Lord Jesus Christ. We find three challenges for getting to the heart of worship this morning.

TRUE WORSHIP IS ALL ABOUT JESUS-VS. 35-37 Jesus turns the tables on the scribes. He asks them a question. He puts them on the spot. He questions them about Ps. 110. This psalm was recognized by Rabbi's as having to do with the Messiah. Jesus exposes their ignorance of what the OT taught about the Messiah. The Christ-This is a translation of the OT Hebrew word for Messiah. Means anointed one, and refers to the King whom God had promised.We find several truths about the Messiah-about Jesus-the Christ that are necessary for a right understanding of worship.

HIS LINEAGE-Vs. 35 This was the common messianic title that was standard scribal teaching. The Messiah was to be a direct descendant of David. Jeremiah 23:5-6
