Dealing With Our Debt Problem

I'm not sure you've heard about this or not; no one is really talking about it so you might not know; apparently it's some kind of secret. But, did you know that our country owes a little bit of money to some folks? Places like, China in particular? And when I say a little bit of money, I actually don't mean a little bit at all; I mean a good bit, a lot, a ton, a truckload, trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars.
So, apparently we have a debt problem. And it seems to be a big problem. We owe over $16 trillion to people all around the world. (Give or take a few hundred billion- chump change right?) People are beginning to wonder if we can even pay back all the money we owe.
*In fact, people say that if we can't get a handle on our debt problem, our government could cease to function properly. I have a question for you; how would that be any different than what it's doing now?*
*Let me show you a picture of one of my favorite people in all the world. ***Picture of Sadie*** Isn't she precious? She has such a pretty smile. Do you want to know why she's so happy? Do you want to know why she's smiling? Because she has no idea that because she's an American citizen, she owes about $52K to China. That's why she's so happy. Whenever she figures that out, she probably won't be smiling.*
I know you think I'm being a bit political this morning but I'm going somewhere with this. Our national debt is really not a political problem; it's a financial problem. It's not about republican or democrat; it's about dollars and sense.
But you and I actually owe a much greater debt. It's hard to imagine a debt that's bigger than 16 trillion dollars but it's true. Ours is a debt that no amount of money could ever repay, no amount of righteousness could ever undo and no amount of strength could ever overcome. It is our sin debt; sin makes us spiritual debtors.
