Galatians 1:6-9
Turn in your bible to Galatians 1. How many of you have taken your pastor's advice and read Galatians in the last couple of weeks getting ready for this study? Our cameras are taking pictures of the good sheep and the black sheep. Ha.Ha. Just kidding (kind of). Keep in mind that you will get more out of this study if you'll put something into it. So I highly encourage you to spend some time on your own in this book.
The reason for this entire sermon series can be summarized in two words: Gospel Clarity. I want us all to know personally and our church to know corporately exactly what the true, pure, adulterated, lifesaving, life giving truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ really is. If we're not clear on this, nothing else we teach matters.
Unfortunately, clarity hasn't always been most preacher's strong suit. It's been said that too many of us preachers are like Christopher Columbus.
When he started out, he didn't know where he was going.
When he got there, he didn't know where he was.
When he got back, he did not know where he had been.
Unfortunately, I've preached a lot of sermons like that. Unfortunately, you've heard a lot of sermons like that. But I'm praying that this series will be so immersed in God's Word, so empowered by God's Spirit, and so applied to your heart that whatever you might not have known or understood about the Gospel before God would set off an explosion inside of you.
Here's the thing: it doesn't matter how long you've been a Christian, Gospel understanding and Gospel clarity can be easily lost. What I mean by that is that so many other things may clutter our minds, hearts, and lives that we may forget about the gospel, thinking all the while that we have not strayed from it. We may get so focused on what it means to be good parents, to have a good marriage, or the best way to make an impact on the world (all good things of ...
