Open your bibles to Galatians 1. Has this question ever pinged off your brain: I wonder if this whole Jesus died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead thing is really true? Have you ever thought that? Is this Gospel thing the real deal, or is it really just some human invention made up over the centuries by lots of die-hard religious people? Let's be honest, church can feel like the least safe place in the world to ask these massively important questions. ''How dare you question Jesus, the bible, and the Gospel...we're in church for goodness sake. Is that even legal?'' The fact is if you are going to have a faith that is unshakeable and undeniable, you've got to have solid answers to these questions.
I had a strong faith as a child being raised in a pastor's home. But I remember reaching a point in my teenage years where I began to ask, ''Is this for real? Do I believe this because I know in my own mind and heart this is true, or do I believe this because it's my parents beliefs and they've passed it on to me?'' I found out don't have to look very far to discover that there are lots of people who are willing to help you doubt Christianity and the Gospel.
Have you ever heard of comedian Ricky Gervais (picture). He said this about his struggle with Christianity:
''I used to believe in God. The Christian one that is. I loved Jesus. He was my hero. He had temptation but defeated sin. He had integrity and courage. But He was my hero because He was kind. And He was kind to everyone. He didn't bow to peer pressure or tyranny or cruelty. He didn't care who you were. He loved you. What a guy. I wanted to be just like Him.
