Galatians 3:15-29
I invite you to open your bible to Galatians 3. This week I took a test that tries to help reveal the ideal man. It had a number of different categories men could be placed in. And I'm happy to report that the category I was placed in was the category of...AWESOME. It's true. I'm in the awesome category. The description of an awesome guy according to this test went kind of like this:
The awesome man is in his mid 40's. He's about 5'9'' 200 lbs.
He's got 3 kids, and a beautiful wife.
He lives in the suburbs on a cul-de-sac. He enjoys sports a lot, boarding on excessive.
He loves golf, but he hates dogs. He's a morning person, so he goes to bed early.
His Favorite music: 80's rock.
His Personality type: little to none. His Hair: Little to none. His love for soccer: little to none.
Favorite color: Cub Blue. (Just reporting the facts.) Based on that description I came out as awesome.
Now the real question is...who wrote that test? The answer...I did! I wrote the test, and then I measured myself against it, and I came out awesome. Now you would say, ''That's ridiculous!'' I agree. But that is exactly what the legalist does. A legalist writes their own standard of measure of how to be good enough for God; what must be done for them to be forgiven and go to heaven. And then they measure themselves against this standard and then conclude...spiritually I'm awesome.
I would suggest to you, though, that if every legalist would measure themselves not against their own homemade, manmade standard, but instead measure themselves against the actual standard of God (which is perfection), he or she would have no other chose than to flee to the amazing grace of God.
If you've been here over the last month or so you know this, but let me give you a quick review. In the book of Galatians, the Apostle Paul tells us that...
