Galatians 4:1-7


Take out your bibles and turn to Galatians 4. When you get there, I want you to look at the pictures on the screen. You probably have heard of all these folks. Do you know what they all have in common? Each of these famous people were adopted as children. Before they were famous, each of these people were children who needed a family. And someone cared enough to adopt them and make a difference in their lives so they could make a difference in the world.

If you spend any time around our church you know there are lots of people around here who are passionate about adoption. We've got numerous families who have adopted multiply children from all around the world. It's absolutely precious. A teacher and a class of first graders were discussing adoption and the teacher asked if anyone knew what adoption was. One little girl raised her hand and said, ''I'm adopted. My mom explained it to me. She said, 'It is when the baby grows in your heart instead of in your tummy.''' Isn't that great? Let me ask you this: Did you know that the fatherless and the orphans occupy a special place in God's heart? Over and over and over again Scripture teaches us this.

Deut. 10:17-18 says, ''For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow...'.

Hosea 14:2-3 says, ''Say to him: 'Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously...for in You the fatherless find compassion.''

Ps. 68:4-6 says, ''His name is the Lord...a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows...God sets the lonely in families.'' I love that. God sets the lonely in families.
