Series: Behold the Lamb

John 19:17-30

We come this morning to ''the cross of calvary''... where we find man at his worst and God at His best! We come to the cross... where the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world was sacrificed!

In John chapter 2 when Jesus was at a celebration... He told his mother in verse 4, ''My hour has not yet come.'' But when you come to chapter 19 at His crucifixion... His hour has come! Simon Peter described His hour in 1 Peter 3.18, ''For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.''

Paul said it this way in 1 Timothy 2.6, ''He gave Himself a ransom for all.''

Paul put it this way in Romans 5.8, ''But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.''

And listen to the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53.12, ''He bore the sins of many.'' What a savior!

Now by way of introduction... we have considered...

-His Examination before the Cross.

Four trials in all and all four them were a mockery of justice! As Pontius Pilate dealt with Jesus...He asked, ''What then shall I do with Jesus who is called the Christ?''

In dealing with Jesus Christ... Pilate made the same mistake a lot of people today are making: he thought he could decide not to decide. He thought He could simply wash the guilt off his hands with water! But Pilate soon learned that it took more than water to wash guilt away!

You cannot remain neutral when it comes to Jesus Christ! You either stand with Him in salvation or you stand against Him in damnation! You either give Him a crown or a cross... but nobody remains neutral about Jesus for Jesus said, ''he who is not with Me is against Me.''

So... John gives us the details of His Examination before the Cross. And then next... we read about...

-His Elevation upon the Cross. ...
