Turn to Rev. 2. One of the most fun, but most stressful parts about having a baby is giving that child a name. You work hard to find the perfect name because as a parent you are gonna have to say that name thousands of times and that child is gonna have to live with that name for the rest of their lives. They will have to go to school with that name, and you know what kids do to funny names, right? We named our son Adam thinking there's no way any kid could come up with something cruel with that name. Adam came home upset one day as a little guy, and we asked what was wrong. He said, ''They were making fun of my name.'' We said, ''No way? Not possible! What were they saying?'' He said, ''They were calling me A-dumb. A-dumb.'' Are you serious?! You want that perfect name so you weed through hundreds of names by going through baby books, googling on the Internet, or stealing names from other pregnant couples you know.
Now, if you've had a daughter in your lifetime, I'll bet there is one name that you didn't even consider. It never crossed your mind or came up in conversation. You've never had a friend named this, and you won't find it as a suggestion in any baby book. You know what that name is? Jezebel. I've heard of cows and cats named Jezebel, but no kids. Why is that? Because the last person we know of who had that name ruined it forever. She did to her name what Judas did to his. Just like you don't hear of any little Judas' running around; you don't hear any Jezebel's either. One of the keys to understanding this letter to the church in Thyatira, we need to know who this woman Jezebel was and her story. Do you know it?
