Revelation 3:14-22
Turn to Revelation 3. Something you may not know about our beloved worship leader Joey Wright is that he is an avid fan of the Rocky movies. All six of them. Joey said there were days in his younger years that he would just declare a Rocky movie marathon day and just watch them all. I know his mom must be proud.
Do we have any other Rocky movie fans? Did you ever see Rocky 3? In Rocky 3, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has been the heavyweight champion of the world for several years. He was once obscure and impoverished street fighter from Philadelphia now he is living a Hollywood style life with a mansion, fancy cars, and an entourage. He's enjoying a life of wealth, fame, and self-indulgence. Unfortunately he's getting up in years so he's decided to quit boxing. But on the day he plans to announce his retirement, he is challenged to one final fight by an unknown behemoth of a man named Clubber Lang (played by Mr. T). Of course he couldn't resist, so Rocky accepts the challenge.
But because of his fame, Rocky trains for the fight in a circus-like atmosphere. He hits the punching bag a few times and then signs autographs. He runs 100 yards and stops to take pictures with people. His preparation is not all that intense and not all that effective. Meanwhile, his challenger is in a meat locker punching sides of beef, running miles and miles all the while envisioning how he's going kill Rocky.
Well, when fight day finally arrives it's not all that surprising what happens. Rocky gets destroyed in just three rounds. Humiliated and dejected, Rocky tries to figure out what went wrong.
Who does he turn to? Apollo Creed. Once his worst nemesis, now his closest confidant. Do you remember his words? ''Eye of the tiger, Rock. Eye of the tiger.'' He said, ''You used to have the eye of the tiger. You used to be hungry to win. You used to have the want-to. You used to b ...
