Mark 4:35
Mark 4:35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, ''Let's cross to the other side of the lake.'' 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. 38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, ''Teacher, don't you care that we're going to drown?'' 39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ''Silence! Be still!'' Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, ''Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?'' 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. ''Who is this man?'' they asked each other. ''Even the wind and waves obey him!'' (NLT)
In this story in the Gospel of Mark, the disciples get into a boat at Jesus' command. He said He had a destination in mind. The disciples forgot the fact that if Jesus said they were crossing to the other side of the lake that He was going to get them there. After He rebukes the wind and the waves, Jesus says to them, ''Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?'' He said that because fear will always fill the gap that a lack of faith creates. Jesus wasn't rebuking them for being afraid. He knows our fears, but in the midst of our fears, our faith in Him carries us through. The root of their fear was the lie that Jesus wouldn't save them and deliver them. But OUR GOD IS MIGHTY TO SAVE! I love the fact that Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with His head on a cushion. It was probably one of those orange life preservers. Jesus is our life saver.
I hear the Holy Spirit saying, ''When the storms of life are overwhelming you, and you are looking for something of this earth to preserve you or help you, Jesus is right in that pl ...
