Where Heaven Meets Earth (3 of 4)
Series: Our House

Genesis 28:10-22
The theme of this series is that God desires to dwell with His people. We have defined ''God's House'' as any place where God chooses to dwell with His people on earth.
-In the garden
-In the tabernacle
- In the temple
- In Jesus
- In us
- In the gathering of called out ones
The first mention of the HOUSE OF GOD in Scripture is in the book of Genesis with a character named Jacob. Jacob was the grandson of Abraham. We need to provide a bit of a background before we read the key text. We know the story of Abraham:
- Come out of Ur of the Chaldees to the place that I will show you and Abraham went.
- God spoke to Abraham and told him that He would make him the father of many nations. But he didn't have an heir. His wife Sarai could not get pregnant.
- Messed up and had a child with Sarah's handmaiden Hagar.
- Several years later (25 years from the time that God promised it to Abraham), when Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90, they conceived the promised child, Isaac.
- When Isaac was a lad, God tested Abraham and asked him to sacrifice Isaac on the altar as an offering to God. Abraham obeyed God. His faith said even if I have to slay my own son, God will raise him from the dead, because God spoke it that he was the promise child through whom I would be the father of many nations.
- Isaac grew up and married Rebecca and they had twin sons, Jacob and Esau. Esau came out first, and close behind Esau was Jacob grabbing Esau's heel as he was delivered out of the womb of Rebecca.
- As the oldest child, Esau was to receive the birthright and the blessing from his father Isaac. Isaac was old and could not see. He told Esau to go and hunt for an animal and prepare some stew for him, and then he would receive his blessing.
- Rebecca overheard the conversation between Isaac and Esau and created a plot for Jacob to receive the blessing of the oldest son. ...
