Matthew 21:12

Matthew 21:12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, ''It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' ''

Many scholars have interpreted Jesus being angry in the scene in the Temple. But nowhere in any of the accounts in the Gospels does it say that Jesus was angry. Jesus was bringing order to His House. The moneychangers were there to change the standard Greek and Roman money for Jewish money so that the offering could be brought, Those who sold animals were making money from the people that purchased the animals to sacrifice them to God.

Here is what was wrong with it. God doesn't desire sacrifice, He desires relationship. The purpose of the sacrifice was for forgiveness of sins, and the purpose for forgiveness of sins was to bring the people of God back into right relationship with Him. God never intended that His House be a place where we just pay our dues. God wants our heart. He wants relationship. He wants His House to be a place of communication and communion with Him.

- My offering goes up, His blessing comes down.

The sacrifice that we give to Him is a life separated onto Him. That's what the word HOLY means - to be set apart, to be separated from the world and set apart to be used for God's purposes. Be holy for I am holy says the Lord.
