Galatians 5:1-12

Now on this Sunday afternoon, we continue our study through the book of Galatians. Our study tonight brings us to chapter 5.

Now in this chapter, Paul continues talking about liberty verses bondage, the Spirit verses the flesh. And as we saw last Sunday night, it is one or the other: Free or Slave, Liberty or Bondage, the law of God or the grace of God!

''Free from the law, O happy condition,

Jesus hath bled, and there is remission;

Cursed by the law and bruised by the fall,

Grace has redeemed us, Once for all.''

Now some preachers will not preach through the book of Galatians because of chapter 5.4 where Paul says ''you have fallen from grace.''

Do you know what I've learned about the Word of God? I've learned that I don't have to be afraid of anything if find in it. Now I may not understand it, but I don't have to fear it!

I mean, if you believe that the Bible is infallible and inerrant, then you don't have to shy away, explain away or even apologize for anything you find in it! Nothing!

So is it possible for a Christian to fall from grace? And if not, what does God mean here when He says in verse 4, ''you have fallen from grace?'' Is God saying that it is possible to be saved by grace only then to lose that salvation? Is it possible to be saved one minute and lost the next as some people believe? What about ''once saved always saved? Does that contradict what Paul's saying here?

Well, that's what I want to talk to you about this afternoon from Galatians chapter 5.
