Advocate for the Poor (33 of 66)
Series: Route 66, A Roadtrip Through the Bible
Tony Thomas
Micah
In the early 80s my in-laws bought a time share in Daytona Beach, Florida. Every other summer since, we spent a week with them in Florida. We saw the same people, summer after summer, and our kids had summer friends they grew up with.
We also looked forward to seeing the same strangers on our beach. There was an older man who jogged every morning at sunrise, a middle-aged couple with great tans (not necessarily great bodies), and a guy who scoured the beach looking for treasure.
Loralee and Leon Wright were walking along a remote beach near Streaky Bay in Western Australia when they saw a strange object. It looked like petrified wood and it weighed 32 pounds. They took it home and a professor from their local university identified it as a piece of ambergris.
For all the landlubbers out there, ambergris is whale vomit that has been belched! Aren't you glad you came to church today? According to Marine biologists, belching helps whales remove hard, sharp objects like squid beaks and seal bones.
Before you gross out, ambergris sells for $65 a gram! Want to guess how it's used? Perfume! (Why don't you take a second and lean over and smell the nearest woman's ears!) The Wright's piece of petrified whale vomit netted them a cool $295,000! Now that's a vacation treasure!
Going through the Bible one book at a time allows us to discover small treasures we otherwise would overlook. Like Isaiah 60:5, ''The wealth of the seas will be brought to you.''
We're in a series called Route 66 and we're Taking a Roadtrip Through the Bible. This is Week No. 33 which means we're halfway through the Bible! We're making progress, folks!
We're in Micah and Micah was an Advocate for the Poor:
2 (Living Bible) Attention people! And everybody listen up! For the Lord, the one who resides in his holy Temple, has made accusations against you!
God told Micah that he ...
