Isaiah 40 ...

31 But those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not grow faint.

We are living in a 24-7 world-on-steroids; it's a world that my grandparents could not have envisioned. My grandmothers cooked on a wood stove; our parents cooked with an oven; but we raised our kids with a microwave.

The iced-tea I drink takes less than two minutes to microwave. Christie's mashed potatoes come from a box, we eat Minute Rice, the pudding is instant and the lean pockets you feed your kids are from the freezer to the table in 60 seconds!

When Yakov Smirnoff arrived in America, he walked through a Super-Walmart grocery store. He saw powdered milk and then read the directions: ''Add water and pour.'' He saw powdered orange juice and the directions instructed him to add water and pour. Then he saw a bottle of Baby powder. He turned to his host and said, ''You American's have thought of everything!''

Today we have instant hot water, cold air, automatic washing machines, clothes dryers and vacuum cleaners. We paint with a sprayer, not a brush; w drill by battery instead of by hand; we nail with a gun instead of a hammer; but we still don't have enough time to get anything done!

Why? Because we're waiting! We wait at the doctor's office, the Post Office, and the BMV. We go through security and wait in line to vote. We go to Walmart at midnight and still wait in line (to cash ourselves out). We drive through McDonald's and wait in two lines - even in Crawfordsville!

And we wait a week to come to church. We're so squeezed for time that we prefer a sermonette, so we can get coffee in the kitchenette, or sneak outside to smoke a cigarette!
