Trouble In The Church (2 of 15)
Series: The Lord of Liberty
Ernest L. Easley
Galatians 1:1-10
With your Bible opened to the book of Galatians, know this: Jesus Christ is the Lord of Liberty! ''He gives food to the hungry and freedom to the prisoners'' (Psm 146.7).
That is the overriding theme of this New Testament book: that Jesus Christ is the Lord of Liberty! Paul says in Galatians 5.1, ''Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.''
Now as you turn to chapter 1, keep in mind that a group of people called ''Judaizers'' we're corrupting the church that Paul had established there in Galatia. They were teaching that it was fine if they wanted to follow Jesus, but true salvation required them to follow the Law!
They were saying: Faith in Jesus + the Law = Salvation! Paul thunders back: No Sir! It is faith in Jesus + Nothing = Salvation! In other words, the Judaizers were leading the church members out of the liberty of grace and back under the bondage of the Law! And a lot of the church members were buying into it, and may I add, that a lot of modern day church members are still buying into it and I'll tell you why: it appeals to the flesh!
Saved by the blood of the Crucified One! All hail to the Father, all hail to the Son, All hail to the Spirit, the great Three in One! Saved by the blood of the Crucified One! So, it shouldn't surprise you that there was trouble in the Church! And by the way, whenever somebody starts changing the gospel, trouble in the church will always follow! You cannot touch the gospel without touching the church!
Don't ever think that the churches greatest troublemakers are those outside the church ridiculing and persecuting it! The churches greatest troublemakers are those inside the church who try to change the gospel!
If you want to be a good churchman, then you be a good gospel-man! The best way to serve the church is to believe and s ...
