I'm glad I married in the 70s instead of the 21st century. After watching that clip, I would feel enormous pressure! That guy spent more money/time on his proposal than we spent on our wedding!
Prior to Valentine's Day, I was over at New Beginnings Childcare. I won't mention names, but flowers were delivered. Those flowers were appreciated! I asked the custodian if he had gotten flowers or a card for your wife. He said, ''No, that's not her language of love.''
Gary Chapman is the author of Five Languages of Love. If you haven't read the book the five languages of love are words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service and physical touch. Chapman says: ''It's important to express love to your spouse in a way your spouse appreciates.''
Early in our marriage, I came home with flowers for Christie. My wife appreciated that gesture. But later, she gave me a tip I've never forgotten: ''The next time you're tempted to bring home flowers, give me cash instead!''

And that brings us to Ruth. Ruth is an interlude of love. Ruth is an oasis in the middle of an arid desert. Ruth is concise and personality driven. After some heavy sledding, it's a welcome relief.
When Benjamin Franklin was our Ambassador to France, he joined the Infidels Club. They did not meet to bash Jesus or religion; they met to eat and read literary masterpieces. One day Franklin read the book of Ruth to the Infidels Club!
But he didn't read from a Bible, and he changed all the names. And when he finished the listeners couldn't say enough in praise of this book they'd never heard of before. Then he told them the truth!
