2 Samuel
For 37 years, Jim McKay provided the voiceover for Wide World of Sports. And every Saturday he said the same thing: ''Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport ... the human drama of athletic competition ... the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat!''
The footage of the thrill of victory changed over the years from sport to sport, but the ''agony of defeat'' was always the same. Ski jumper Vinko Bogataj crashed and burned every Saturday like clockwork.
Speaking of crashing and burning ... what the heck happened with my Boilermakers? If Jim McKay was still alive I'd appeal to him to replace Vinko Bogataj's epic fall with Matt Painter wiping the sweat from his brow in another fourth quarter meltdown.
I was so unhappy I decided to drown my sorrows on Twitter! I found some solace in the fact that other Boilermaker fans felt just like me. One guy tweeted: ''If we can fly Neil Armstrong to the moon, why can't we blast Matt Painter there, too?''
A female posted: ''Never forget that Purdue is actually a French word meaning, ''To have lost.''
My favorite was obviously from a longtime fan who had simply had enough: ''I would like the Purdue basketball team to lower me into my grave so they can let me down one last time!''
Moving rapidly along, we're in a series called Route 66, a Roadtrip Thru the Bible. We're going throgh the Bible one book at a time and this is week No.11 and we're in 2 Samuel (or as Donald Trump would say, Two Samuel. Please note that I'm an equal opportunity cynic).
2 Samuel is one of the Double Books:
1. In 1 Samuel, Israel selects a king.
2. In 2 Samuel, David rules in Jerusalem.
3. In 1 Kings, the nation divides.
4. In 2 Kings, God's people are taken captive.
5. In 1-2 Chronicles, the people return home.
Question: If God was still writing his Word, what events would he include i ...
