A well-known book begins like this: ''Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for his love is more delightful than wine. Take me away with you; let's hurry! Let the king take me into his bed-chambers.''

That sounds a little racy, doesn't it? Like a trashy novel, right? (How would you know?) Actually, that's how the Song of Solomon begins! That's the first two verses from the Holy Bible!

We're taking a Roadtrip Through the Bible , one book at a time, and this is Week No. 22 and we're in the Song of Solomon. This book is nothing more than a love-song about pillow talk!

If you wonder what marital intimacy looks like, the Song of Solomon is a book about committed love and physical attraction. Some well-meaning but misinformed believers have limited intimacy to procreation; the begetting of children. But, there isn't even the first hint of procreation in Solomon's Song!

Instead, Solomon and his bride praise the physical expression of love for love's sake alone. Intimacy can be an awkward subject. But, physical intimacy, in its healthiest sense, honors the Lord and should be celebrated as a gift from God.

In 1 Kings 4:32, we learn that, ''Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs and his songs numbered 1,005.'' But this is his best work! The book begins, ''Solomon's Song of Songs.'' That phrase is a Hebrew superlative, which means there is nothing equal to it.

This unashamed expression of loving passion is the greatest song a couple can sing! You might not feel comfortable reading this in Sunday School, and some of the verbiage might cause you to blush, but let's don't bury out heads in the sand.

Like Solomon, some men can write love songs. I was thinking this week about some of the better ones from my youth, like Van Morrison: (G - l - o - r - i - i - i - ... G-l-o-r-i-a, Gloria!) Or how about the Beach Boys: (Ba-ba-ba, Ba-ba--braAnn)? Or perhaps Ar ...
