If you're a 24 fan, then you know the word ''Now!'' is one of Jack Bauer's favorite words. If you're not a fan, let's just say that Jack Bauer was an impatient person! In nine seasons and 202 episodes, he said ''Now!'' 194 times! Whoever made that clip has way too much time on their hands!
Mark is the Gospel for short attention spans. Bible scholars fondly refer to Mark as the AD/HD Gospel. It's like he has a spiritual form of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: there are no breaks, no pauses, no rests ... and he's always moving!
The Greek word for now is euthos. It means immediately, at once, as soon as! That word appears nearly 150 times in the Bible, and 33% of the time it appears in Mark!
''At once the spirit sent him out...'' (11:12). ''Immediately the leprosy left...'' (1:42). ''As soon as they got out of the boat...'' (6:54). ''Immediately the boy's father exclaimed...'' (9:24). ''Immediately he received his sight...'' (10:52). ''Immediately the rooster crowed...'' (14:72).
In Mark's Gospel everything happens, ''Now!'' A form of that word is used 47 times in 16 chapters. The action literally leaps from the pages. Euthos! ... Now! ... Immediately! ... At once!
If you use www.Biblegateway.com to read the Bible, there is a feature that allows Biblegateway to read to you. I have my iPhone set for the NIV: the voiceover is British, there's music in the background and there are eight events in Mark 1 (I actually timed how long it takes to read the passage).
