The Physician's Rx (42 of 66)
Series: Route 66, a Road Trip Through the Bible
Tony Thomas
Luke
Are you right-brained, or left-brained? Your brain has two distinct cerebral hemispheres. The hemispheres appear to be identical, but they're not! Every healthy person uses both sides of their brain, but one side is more dominant than the other.
The left/right sides of our brain are distinctive but interactive. For example, the right side of our brain controls speech, while the left side of our brain controls thought. Harmonizing the two often creates conflict (the technical term is lateralizing).
Would you like to take a test? You will see a slide with three columns of words and colors. We'll start with column No. 1 and read top to bottom. But, I want you to read the color, but not the word. Understand?
I'll say 1, 2, 3, go - and you say the colors of the words (you can see the test at this address on the web ... http://www.clevelandseniors.com/forever/colortest.htm).
1. Red ... black ... purple ... blue ... yellow.
2. Yellow ... red ... black ... purple ... green.
3. Purple ... yellow ... blue ... green ... red.
Wow! Talk about conflict! The right side of your brain controls speech, while the left side controls thought. The right brain tries to say the color, while the left brain tries to say the word!
If you ever wondered why I get confused ... now you know! All of us use one side of our brain more than the other. We see things differently, We comprehend differently. We feel things differently. Teachers with multiple students live in conflict eight hours every day of their professional lives!
So ... are you left or right brained? Left-brained people value rules, language, strategy, rationality and logic. Right-brained people value images, spontaneity, creativity, intuition and curiosity.
I thought of some famous TV duos who were different, like Mayberry. Barney Fife was right-brained and Andy Taylor was left-brained.
How about Sei ...
