We rarely go to the movies, so when we do, it has to be memorable. We like movies based on real characters and real stories, like Amelia Earhart or Hidden Figures. And we always stay for the credits, and I write down the best lines for sermon illustrations.

Hoosiers is based on Milan High School's state championship in 1954, and I used one of its lines several years ago during a high school basketball game. Some of you know that I coach the Crawfordsville girls' basketball team and one night a JV player lost her cool. She go so mad she cussed at the referee and flipped off the crowd, and I had to physically run onto the court and remove her from the gym.

Because two of our players had already fouled out, we had no other subs to take her place. The referees were unaware, so they walked over to the bench and said, ''Coach, we need a fifth player.''

I reminded them that we had already fouled out two players, and no other subs were available. Then I said: ''In the immortal words of Coach Norman Dale, 'My team's on the floor!'''

The three of us started howling! I'm sure our fans, and the Lebanon High School fans wondered what was so funny, but sometimes that's all you can do. I don't care who you are, that was funny!

I've got one more line for you and it's not humorous. It's Mel Gibson's last line in Braveheart. William Wallace was a Scottish knight who spearheaded a rebellion against King Edward I in 1297. Wallace joined forces with Robert the Bruce, but Bruce's father betrayed him:

Wallace was captured and imprisoned. Eventually, he was led from the Tower of London to be racked and disemboweled. Given a chance to pledge his loyalty to King Edward and die quickly, William Wallace shouted, ''Freedom!'' And then they lopped off his head.

I still get chills every time I watch that scene. And believe it or not, that's what the book of Galatian ...
