CIT - Jesus heals blind Bartimeaus

INTRODUCTION:
What happens when a person encounters Jesus? Of course some people reject the idea altogether. To them Jesus is a myth or religious symbol and not a historical reality at all.

But others, many others experience the divine reality of encountering the Living, Risen Lord Jesus. Their lives are never the same.

People like you and I. This morning, Christ is here. He is available to all who will hear and respond. You can encounter Christ this morning.

Turn with me to Luke 18:35

Read the text:

The blind man's name is Bartimaeus. He has a close encounter with Christ that forever changes his life. This morning you can meet Christ, your life can be changed, you can experience a miracle.

I) HE WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME-
Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside begging when He met Christ. Matthew tells us that there were two beggars, More than likely Luke only mentions Bartimeaus because he was the spokesman, perhaps even the instigator of most of what happens.

They were drawing near to Jericho - A city located about 15 miles NE of Jerusalem and 5 miles from the Jordan River. This is the only instance we have of Jesus' visiting Jericho. Matthew and Mark record this visit as taking place while Jesus was leaving Jericho. More than likely Luke's words are only meant to refer to the close vicinity of Jericho.

There men were in a position to encounter Jesus. This was no coincidence, this was not an accident. Life is not a blind game of chance. Rather these men were positioned by God to encounter Christ. Not only the location was right, but the conditions of their lives were right for meeting Christ.

A) HE WAS BLIND -Physical blindness was very common in Biblical times. There was no medical helps or remedies at all. Think of it, not being able to see a sunset, or the face of your family members. Unable to read or to enjoy the beauty ...
