INTRODUCTION:
ILLUS: Going to Church Growth conferences to find the key to growing a church. Over the years I have been to many. I would come home with a notebook full of good ideas and try to implement as many as possible. To be honest, only a few very worked. What reaches people effectively in Southern California or New York is not likely to work here in Coushatta!
So what does work? Where can we go to find principles and practices for a church that God will bless?
People like you and me, ordinary people, living close to Jesus, aware of the needs around us, available for God's use, and full of faith in His power and ability will be used by God to attract people to the Gospel..
These are principles for effective ministry at Open Door Fellowship.
I) EFFECTIVE MINISTRY FLOWS FROM AN INTIMATE WALK WITH GOD - VS. 1
Intimacy is the foundational principle of effectiveness in ministry. If we are to be effective we must have an intimate walk with Jesus.
Peter and James and John had been Jesus' most intimate friends during his earthly ministry. '
First there was Peter - The most prominent of the 12 apostles. He was the first disciple to be named an apostle, the first to openly recognize Jesus as the Messiah, the first apostle to witness the resurrection and the first to preach to the Gentiles. John and James were brothers, the sons of Zebedee. They were fisherman. Jesus called him and his brother boangernes - sons of thunder. They were firey, passionate men. But in the end, they were ordinary men who were used by God in an extraordinary manner. What made them so effective was the intimacy of their walk with Christ.
