Philippians 1:21-26
CIT- Paul tells the Philippian believers that Christ is everything to Him.
Proposition - Christians today must surrender to Christ and make the center of all their life.
INTRODUCTION:
I want you to imagine with me that we are walking through the streets of Coushatta and interviewing people. We have one question to ask, What is Christianity? From experience, I can tell you that we would have many different answers.
Some would say following the rules. Being a good person, Doing what you are supposed to. Some would say that Christianity is all about a church. Attending, working, serving. Some would say that Christianity is just one of many different religions. All different, but good ways to get to heaven. Others would say Christianity is a life, a myth, a fable. But there would be some would answer correctly. They would say something close to what Paul meant when he said, ''for me to live is Christ and to die is gain.''
Christianity is all about Jesus. Period. John R W Stott has written correctly, ''The person and work of Christ are the foundation rock upon which the Christian religion is built. . . Take Christ from Christianity and you disembowel it; there is practically nothing left. Christ is the center of Christianity, all else is circumference.
I) LIVING IS CHRIST - This life with Christ is
A) A LIFE OF FAITH - Ephesians 2:5 - Even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. This life began in faith. Faith is belief. We had to believe that we needed to be saved, that we were sinners. We had to believe that only Christ could save us from our sins. We had to receive Him as our Lord and Savior. Believing and receiving were more than a mental acceptance, but a surrender of ourselves to Him.
