C.I.T.-Christ heals the man at the pool of Bethesda
Proposition-A Christ centered Church is a Church busy doing what Jesus was doing.

INTRODUCTION:

ILLUS: Movies that depicted Jesus coming in the 90's. What if Jesus were to physically spend a week or a month here in Swartz? What would He do? Where would He be? Our story this morning is a glimpse into the life and ministry of Christ. A glimpse that will reveal the work that Christ has left for His Church to do. We will see what happens when the needs of a man, destitute and hopeless meet the life-changing power of Christ. Bethseda means house of healing, house of mercy or flowing water. It was a pool of water in Jerusalem near the sheep gate. The sheep gate was most likely named as it was because of the great numbers of sheep that passed through it on their way to be sacrificed in the temple. The pool itself was north of the temple, but relatively close. From the message of this miracle I want to call you to a decision. A decision to be a Jesus Church, Jesus people. People who do what Jesus would have done. Who go where Jesus would have gone. Who way what Jesus would have said.

I) A JESUS CHURCH GOES WHERE JESUS WENT-VS. 3-4 Bethseda was supposedly a pool of healing. About 120 paces long, 40 wide, and at least 8 deep, and was surrounded by 5 porches. There were many such shrines throughout the ancient world. Around this pool was a multitude.

A) HE WAS AMONG THE SICK--Vs. 3

Sick, Impotent in K.J.V.The word sick is interesting. It means to be weak, feeble, without strength. They were blind, lame and paralyzed.

Alfred Edershem describes the scene at the pool. ..poor crippled sufferers, on their miserable pallets or on rugs and in true eastern fashion filling the air with lamentations.

NAC - Jesus is here among the helpless dregs of society who lay in a pitiful state.
