John 12:31-33
INTRODUCTION:
There are three victories outlined in these verses. Victories won through Jesus' death on the cross.
I) JESUS' DEATH REVEALS OUR SIN - VS. 31 - ''Now is the judgment of this world.''Judgment means to accuse or to condemn, to pass a sentence upon someone. The world is the entire system of this present world, ruled over by Satan and inhabited by unbelieving humanity. The cross revealed sin in it most hideous form and in doing so exposed the condemnation that sin brings.
A. THE CROSS REVEALS SIN BY REVEALING OUR HEARTS -
The cross exposes the darkest depths of human wickedness. Sin is rebellion, sin is treason against the high king of heaven. Read Romans 3:10-18 - No one is righteous, no one can claim to seek God. ''For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!
John 3:18-19 (NKJV)
18 s''He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, tthat the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Because of sin, humanity is separated from eternally from a holy and righteous God!
B. THE CROSS BRINGS US TO OUR SENSES ABOUT OUR OWN SPIRITUAL CONDITION -
But I want to argue, Not so, Not me! I am a good person. As good as anyone else. I am so often blind to my own faults and my own sin. But the cross will not allow me to deceive myself.
John 9:39 (NKJV) 39 And Jesus said, c''For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.'' It was for me He died. For me he was beaten. For me and because of my sins he was nailed to a tree. It was the guilt of my iniquity and my transgressions that was laid upon him on that day.
