Main plot of Bible: Started in OT, prophecy from ancient Jewish prophet Isaiah. Promise of ruler - Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, etc..
Then NT, humble birth of child named Jesus. Born in manager. Seems ordinary, but not. This is one promised back in OT. Angels appear to shepherds praising God for birth of child, calling him a Savior. Wise men come after spotting star in the east to worship him.
Finished with thoughts from apostles John and Paul about significance of coming of Christ into our world. Focus in on Paul’s thoughts.
Paul begins with these words: “But when fullness of time, God sent forth his Son” Something long in the planning, long prepared. Now finally carried out. God sends his Son Jesus.
“Born of woman.” Divinity joins. Born “under the law.” Law - obligation have to obey God and follow him. Something however all people have completely failed to do.
Humanity now very dangerous situation. Under God’s law but come up short. Either perfectly keep God’s law or don’t and face consequences for not keeping God’s law – judgment and punishment.
Harsh? Not really. All implicitly understand certain standards that must be absolutely kept. Illus Natural laws like law of gravity. Must respect, honor. Defy or ignore this law by walking off a cliff in Grand Canyon, face steep consequences of your body getting crushed and smashed.
What you see in natural world also applies in moral world. Certain moral laws and standards established by God for life that when followed bring peace, harmony. Not keeping them brings conflict, chaos, self-destruction, ultimately divine punishment.
Either we deliberately defy God and his law – equivalent of just deliberately throwing ourselves off the cliff. Or we self-righteous hypocrites who take pride in our perfect religion but ironically in acting in such prideful ways we show that we really just as guilty before God as anyone else ...
