Sermon Summary: Jesus' healing of the man born blind reveals the glory of his illumination. We see this glory in three ways: 1) The light of GOOD theology, 2) The light of urgency and 3) The light of surrender.

INTRODUCTION: Sport's fans - what is the highest paid position on an NFL football team? Quarterback. What is the second highest paid position? Left Tackle. Why? Blind-side. Michael Lewis's book The Blind Side, highlights how N.F.L. teams only slowly became aware of the immensely important role that offensive left tackles play in protecting the quarterback from blind-side hits. In 1985 Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann's leg was broken when he was sacked on his blindside by linebacker Lawrence Taylor. The injury was voted the NFL'S ''Most shocking moment in history'' by viewer's in an ESPN poll. I'm not going to show you the clip. I simply want to highlight the dangers of a blind spot.

If you've taken driver's education, you know about your blind spot. It's not enough to check the rearview and side mirrors, you must physically turn your head to ensure there's not a car approaching in your blind spot before you change lanes.
And when it comes to our character and behaviors, maybe we have had the experience of being sat down by a friend or family member who wants to point out something we've been saying or doing that is destructive to ourselves and others and we didn't even realize it. It's a ''blind spot'' in our character. We can have ''blind spots'' even if our vision is 20-20. Jesus wants to help us with this. He came to ''open our eyes'' in a spiritual sense.
